Stones of Resonance: CHINA
My exhilarating experience climbing on the Great Wall of China inspired these collages. Here I create imaginary abstract vistas to evoke the depth and vastness of the Chinese landscape and the still lingering traumas of China's past.
Each composition contains a photograph of the Great Wall's massive stone structures: stairways, ramps, walls, towers. I've adjusted the color of my printed photos in order to blend them seamlessly with collaged layers of alcohol ink infused papers. I've chosen to focus on the primary colors: red, yellow and blue.
These artworks show an evolution from compositions built up from a grid of squares precisely cut from larger sheets, through compositions that hide parts of the grid and finally to looser compositions that dispense with the grid entirely.
